What are fleas?

Fleas feed on the blood of warm-blooded mammals as their only source of food. They are small insects, usually reddish-brown in color. With powerful back legs, fleas can jump 50 times their body length.

Adult fleas are around one-eighth of an inch long and have hard, flattened bodies that allow them to move easily through their hosts’ fur, feathers or hair.

Are fleas dangerous? 

Fleas can transmit a variety of parasites, such as tapeworm. Flea bites can also lead to excessive itching.

Where do you find fleas? 

Fleas love warm, humid weather and usually live outside on their hosts. People and pets usually come into contact with fleas in wooded areas, near ponds and lakes, in tall grass, at dog parks and at pet grooming facilities. Used furniture or rugs can also transmit fleas.

How does Pest Guru solve a flea issue? 

Before we begin, we make sure that any pets have been to the vet to make sure they are safe and protected.

We then spray baseboards and around furniture with a special liquid residual mix. The products we use are certified by the EPA as low-risk, meaning it’s safe for kids, pets and all beings that are not insects. Next, we use an aerosol spray on any furniture made out of fabric and all mattresses.

When we’re working, we advise people to wash their bed sheets and clothes with a disinfecting detergent in warm water. Finally, we throw around a granulated pesticide in the grass in the front and back of the home or business. At that point, the tenant will need to water the granular to activate it.
